The Reward

In 1732, two missionaries were sent out from the Moravian community in Herrnhut, Germany, bound for the Danish West Indies (modern-day U.S. Virgin Islands) to minister to enslaved people. According to historical accounts, as their boat pulled away from the dock, the two men called out to their loved ones on shore. They shouted this phrase. “May the lamb that was slain receive the reward of his suffering.”

The 'Lamb' refers to Jesus, and 'His suffering' means the cross. And the 'reward' He's owed isn't money or power or fame. It’s souls. It means people from every nation, tribe, and tongue, finding hope and freedom because of what He did
